The hangar is a remnant of a former air base of the German Luftwaffe. Watercraft were stationed at the coastal airfield. Officers' cottages, barracks were built on the base. The entire complex was top secret. The seaplanes were based in huge hangars. Most of the infrastructure has survived to this day, including boiler houses, access roads and maneuvering areas built of distinctive concrete slabs. Also surviving are barracks, storage buildings, a parachute shed, an observation tower, the airport command headquarters and guard booths. However, most of the buildings are in poor condition. After World War II, various units were stationed in Rogow. The last of them was disbanded in late 1998. Since 2005, the hangar has been home to the Museum of Aviation and Military Technology.
