8. International Jewish Music Days in Szczecin Between Voice and Shadow Chamber concert Willa Lentza, al. Wojska Polskiego 84 Itay Dvori – piano Detlef Bensmann – saxophone Pauline Reguig – violin Tickets: www.spotonart.com/dmz2025 All the artists featured in this program – from Fanny Hensel (1805–1847) to Marek Eychenne (b. 1933) – belonged to a world that for centuries existed “between voice and shadow”: present in the history of music, but not always clearly heard. This is a concert of Jewish composers whose achievements transcend labels – stylistic and identity-related – and yet have too often been marginalized. Wolfgang Jacobi (1894–1972) and Adolf Busch (1891–1952) wrote music that was transparent, formally structured, yet full of tension – as if in defiance of the times that were approaching catastrophe. Fanny Hensel, who composed in her brother's shadow, left behind sounds that speak the language of intimacy. Erwin Schulhoff (1894–1942) combined classical discipline with jazz rhythms and the irony of modernity. Detlef Bensmann (born 1958) and Robert Sherman (born 1932) continue this tradition with a contemporary twist – personal, unobvious, unpretentious. Three instruments – violin, saxophone, and piano – engage in a conversation without background. Each voice is clear, and each carries something that has remained in the shadows for years. The International Jewish Music Days is an annual festival held in Szczecin since 2018. The eighth edition is primarily associated with the 150th anniversary of the inauguration of the now defunct New Synagogue in Szczecin on Zielony Szaniec Street (today's Dworcowa Street). The music performed there will be played at concerts, and thanks to a virtual reconstruction, we will be able to see that it was one of the most beautiful buildings in our city. Organizer: SPOT.ON ART Foundation More information: www.spotonart.com Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund, as part of the "Music" program implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance. The project was financially supported by the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation. The event is co-financed by the City of Szczecin.
