The redoubt was built between 1770 and 1774, during the expansion of the fortress after the experience of the Seven Years' War. The siege at the time, and these were the years 1758 - 1761 and the capture of the city by the Russians, gave impetus to the fortification of the northern suburbs of Kolobrzeg. It now occurs to us that Kolobrzeg has always lain directly on the sea. At that time, there were still marshy hollows between the medieval city and the harbor, where enemy troops huddled during the war. A bird's-eye view shows the five-armed outline of the Marsh Redoubt. Back in 1945, the Germans fortified themselves here and blocked the movement of Polish troops for three days during the battle for the city. It now houses a tavern - a seasonal dining and entertainment venue. From the side of the city one can see a brick wall with gun holes, a side entrance and the main gate. Through this gate one enters a spacious courtyard, which houses feasting tables under umbrellas and a stage. The earthen embankment on the inside is an auditorium with rows of benches. Fish is smoked and fried on site, and a rotisserie is in operation. The location of the redoubt, away from residential buildings, makes it possible to organize summer entertainment even after 10 pm, without risking accusations of disturbing the quiet of the night. To the left of the entrance is the fort's main building, used as a restaurant. There are a total of three brick buildings on the redoubt grounds. The whole is embanked with earth to the height of the walls, forming a closed pentagon. The redoubt used to be surrounded by water, and a drawbridge led to the gate. For the convenience of visitors, part of the moat on the side of the island has been filled in, and the only traces of the bridge are the iron blocks above the entrance, over which chains that were pulled or released used to move. A separate curiosity is the gate, which after years of absence from its place, returned here in 2013 after extensive restoration. Original are the oak staves on the outside and the metal hardware. However, the decayed staves on the inside of the fort and 200 iron pins were replaced, as the old ones were badly corroded. The two-leaf gate weighs 600 kilograms.
